Well, I know I requested one, but I would like to to know what is the recommended size for making a background for a forum.

I personally would say 1024 x 768 .
This is good for most forums and if you do the background right it will look good at almost any resolution.

I'd go with what Dustin said. 1024x768 is usually the best to make bg's for. Most people are on that resolution, but some are on bigger resolutions (like I'm on 1280x1024), so it wouldn't hurt to go a bit bigger.

Yeah I'm on 1152 x 864.
I mean if you go with the average then you'll be good. Because us higher resolution people should understand that that is the average user resolution and we can deal with it. heh.

*Looks at XDD's bg* yeah, we have to deal with repeated/cut off bg's a lot =P.
I could go all the way up to 1600x1200... but that's way too small for me xD.

Go with about 1300 width. That covers 95%, if not 99% of user's monitor sizes. Height is up to you, but if you make something that can repeat vertically, it doesn't really matter if it's an exact size.
