Now, in most states, you are not required to have four years of Physical Education. That way students can do other things, such as fine arts, tech school, etc... But now they are trying to make it a requirement that you take some sort of Gym class every year. That means classes such as dance, show choir, marching band, and ROTC will not be counted as PE credits. Only Gym will.
What are your opinions on this?
I, personally, do not like it. I would like to use show choir as my PE credit. Whether they like it or not, dancing is a physical activity that requires me to move A LOT. If they put this in, then I won't be able to take it because I would also have to take Mixed Choir and Vocal Lab with it. I am in a magnet school, and we would suffer the most for it. Because in a magnet school, whatever magnet you are in you have to spend two or three periods doing something related to that magnet.

I luckily only had to take a semester of it my freshman year. I hate gym class so damn much. I'm not athletic, and I just don't really care; would rather spend my time in front of a computer than kicking a ball, IMO.

I've never been involved in anything involving music like show choir or dancing so I am not exactly sure how much work and exercise goes into them. I do think that taking PE should be up to the student. A lot of people aren't going to want to do physical education, and if they are forced to, probably wouldn't even try to do it right. It'd pretty much be a waste of time for them. I think it should be the choice of each person whether or not they want to take the extra step to be healthy. Some people probably don't even need it.

Well, if things stay the same for long enough, I'll just have to get in my show choir stuff and I'll be in!

At my school they require two years of some sort of physical education. For my first year, I took survey PE (just general stuff like basic sports, running, exercise, etc..) and for my second year I took Weight Training. I really hated PE, but I loved weight training. It gave me more of a sense of improvement and accomplishment than normal PE ever did.
However, I'm done with PE. It's actually impossible to take any more PE classes with the way my schedule needs to be. But when I get into college, I plan to take martial arts. My bro is in an Engineering college, and he tells me that without a physical class, so many kids would probably commit suicide from all the stress and work involved. I'll be going to the same school as he is (Cal Poly Pomona) because it's a great place for engineers, and I KNOW they teach several martial arts. (yes.. karate too.. >.<)
