I am in high school. What does that mean? Well, all too often I get bombarded with people trying to recruit me and my friends into military service.
Army: Uses propaganda-like methods and tries to appeal to the "cool" side of service. They show up in decked-out hummers, have push-up or basketball contests, and pass out all sorts of fliers that glorify service in the army.
Navy: They follow the bribing approach. Every time the navy comes around they have tons of free stuff to give out. Stuff like toys, pens, miniature footballs, etc... They then talk about how easy the navy is and how it's the safest branch of the military.
Air-force: They actually haven't done much in the way of recruitment. This is probably due to the fact that they eat up mainly aerospace engineers in colleges.
Marines: They are ALWAYS somewhere on campus. They don't use a materialistic approach, but rather a mental approach. I always see them standing around talking to people and sharing some sort of story.
Now, I know we need people in the military, but I find that many of these methods merely over-pressure young, impressionable minds to enlist. Do you feel they use fair, or unfair recruitment tactics, and how often, if ever, are they recruiting at your school or bugging you personally?

Sounds like my school lol the Marines always show up in hummers and show them off and things they even had this pull-up contests(of corse pull-ups are easy for me as for i dont weigh that much and can do over 25 pull-ups lol). Then the National Guard comes and had all of these activities like these blow up things they use for tranning and they had this fighting thing of curse yeah had to wear pads. And the Army just passed little things out like papers and little books about what they are and what they do. It seems that there is at least one of them at our school at least once a week. And when they are i do feel that they bug people to much by pulling them over in the hall trying to talk to them or have them do some stupid contest or something.

Not in high school yet, so I couldn't really say. They seem fair though, they're not forcing you to listen to what they're saying or watch them. I would just ignore them, or try to show that you don't need to be in the military to get any of that stuff. Besides, those hummers are probably killing them with gas now.

I actually wouldn't really want to join, at least not as an NCO. It might be kind of cool to go through West Point, and be an officer or something, but I don't think I'm in shape enough to do that. I think that its pretty cool though that they show their stuff though, and desertwolfs fighting thing sounds like fun.
I've also played America's Army, the multiplayer FPS made by the army, and it has a TON of recruitment stuff.
As far as the HMMWVs, I think that its worth the gas money to have a safe transport for our soldiers.

THe hummvee gas is paid by the government, I'm sure, since they're a government job. Yet the government probably has the power to lower gas prices. Bush keeps dumping more oil into the reserve as all over the country gas hits $4.00 per gallon. Just around 6 more months until he's gone.

Bush keeps dumping more oil into the reserve as all over the country gas hits $4.00 per gallon. Just around 6 more months until he's gone. Not like I want to switch subjects but... Storing oil in reserves is essential, now more than ever. When all the crude oil is nearly drilled out, those who have control over what little is left will become powerful. If a war breaks out over oil, we will at least have reserves to manage for a while. As for the price, it would be stupid to assume politicians would, or even could just wave their hands and make the problem go away. It doesn't work like that anymore. Demand is at an extreme, and supplies aren't gonna last forever. This puts drilling companies in the perfect position to raise their prices. Plus, higher prices is a GOOD thing in the long run. The issue of fuel is now a major concern that takes top priority in most people's minds. This will lead to research and advancements in alternate Earth-friendly energy.
