Do you believe in the afterlife? Like, heaven and/or hell.
I do, I believe in heaven and hell, although I believe hell is completely misinterpretted. I don't know quite how to explain it, but I don't think it is eternal suffering in flames, but it is having what you always wanted right in front of you, but not being able to have it any sort of fashion as it torments you.

Careful with this topic, blu...this can be a very sensitive topic to discuss on forums.
BTW, everybody has their own version of hell, IMO. You described a perfect way that it could be.
Anyway, yes, I do believe in heaven/hell. Raised Catholic.

Well, by now I have accumulated quite a bit of experience in this topic, and this is my opinion:
Heaven, hell, gods, and religion were created by man to explain the unexplainable. They aren't actually provable in any way, since religion is an idea, not a provable fact. However, religion and the afterlife (religion is highly based on there being an afterlife, which guides most beliefs) is an important aspect of many people's lives.
Most of the things the ancient gods explained have been explained using science, except for 1 main thing: The afterlife. (no, not how it all started. We're currently knocking on the door to that room with deep-space astronomy.)
What happens when you die? Some think there is a heavenly afterlife, or simply continuing life in a world all of your own. Some abuse the "hell" concept to scare people into religious beliefs. Some, like many atheists, believe there is simply nothing after you die. However, it's not the easiest thing to comprehend absolute nothingness.
I am atheist and I believe in moral teachings from many religions, except when they discriminate against certain genders or races. I also celebrate Christian holidays.

I like the way you put it. Although I don't completely agree with it, it is a nice way to put it. I do believe that many things in religion are misinterpreted by man, I do, like I said, believe in the afterlife. Religion has been around for millions of years, and as I do remember reading, Christianity and Judaism are not the first religions, but they have come into existence. If, over millions of years, they have definitely been changed and corrupted by man to put across a message that they think is right.

The Christian religion has already been corrupted many times since it's beginnings, and it didn't take more than a thousand or so years. Also, the pure history behind religion is both what keeps it believable, AND disproves it. It is an idea based on the past that prepares you for the future, what happens after death, as well as guides you through every-day life.
But if one looks into the past, they notice that religion and worship has existed as long as man, and has changed many times over the centuries to fit their current ideas and knowledge. This thought may mean there is no validity (truth) to religion since nothing stays the same and it transforms constantly, almost like how opinions change all the time.
