Me and my dad often go on walks. During these walks, we love dwelling in matters like global policies, economics, and all general problems with the world.
So, we've discussed in an open-air setting many possible solutions for what has gone wrong in the world around us... and while I can assume not everybody will agree, I will tell you all my opinions. If interest allows, and seeing as this may be a little too much for one post, I will make it into a series of some sort... maybe even a full-length film directed by Michael Moore. ;D
First up, the Iraq War
Well, I think the first thing to do in order to solve this problem, is realize that the war is illegal. The US needs to change the status of the ENTIRE war on terrorism from illegal to legal somehow. But how can this be accomplished?
When a gang has been dominating an area and dealing drugs, it becomes a war-like situation unless key players can be arrested before it escalates. If it does escalate, what do we do? Do we nuke the neighborhood? No. We set up a group in the police department to investigate the situation and come up with a solution.
Then do we get to send in the air force? Again, no. We put together a group of policemen and women in a specialized unit for situations like this. One example would be S.W.A.T. They are called into the most hazardous situations because they are trained for them.
A group of 6 SWAT members can do the job that would have taken 200 policemen to resolve. I think we should apply this to terrorism. Rainbow Six comes to mind.
We create a specialized force comprising of people from all sectors of the world into one organization that fights terrorism. Then it would be made legal for this group to go in and search for terrorists.
Our troops are trained and geared for war, not police missions. (well maybe not geared, stay tuned for a discussion on corruption and the ban on Dragon Skin. ) You can't expect people who are trained for destruction and defense to properly fight small groups of terrorists. But this organization, it would be made for just that purpose: Finding and eliminating terrorist threats without destroying countries.
With that force, the whole world takes on the responsibility of stopping terrorism and it can be slowed to a crawl everywhere. Now, I say crawl because there is no way to completely get rid of it... And knowing that, it is STUPID to think we should just continue fighting it like a WAR. We knew organized crime was becoming a problem and would need a long-term solution, so we created the FBI. We know terrorism is becoming a problem, so we need a long term solution. What do we do? Uhh... deeeerrr... i dunno? Trhow a steek at it?
As always, threads are made for discussion. Whaduya think?
