Google Chrome was released today as a beta. It offers a simple interface with basic features. Here's a link to the download: www.google.com/chrome/So far it looks like Chrome uses a lot less resources than Firefox 3 or IE7. If you've downloaded Chrome, type in about:memory into the address box. It'll have a comparison of all of your open browsers, as well as Chromes current tabs.

Cool, I was wondering when google would release something like this. They practically own the web, so why not make a browser?

How much do you think this'll hurt FF? Since from what I hear, Google donates to FF lol... I'll wait till its a final release, then I'll check it out. I'll probably stick to IE though =P (IE8 should be coming out pretty soon here, too =D).

Hopefully you would be smart enough to not download anything suspicious. Also if I wanted to I could just download through another browser. Try typing about:memory and about:stats into the Chrome address bar. It'll bring up some statistics about memory use for Chrome and any other open browser, and the other has some useful information for developers. Overall I thought Chrome was decent. Especially for it being a beta.

If you were to download a file you thought was safe, t hough...that vulnerability could do some damage. But since it's a BETA that's using an older version of JAva, I'm sure Google will update it to the newest Java/put the patch on Chrome before the final release.

To be honest, it seems like a badly developed version of Safari - but that's probably because it's still in beta. Images: Some images which look fine in other browsers look strangely tacky on the gradient side of things(look at the side of the forum for example). Expanding textareas: Why does this stretch the page? Safari doesn't stretch the page In general, loading times seem to be a LOT slower than other browsers, even typing this post it seems to lag whilst typing. The lack of everything to me seems like a good idea -> Lightweight browsing, I'd definitely use Chrome if all I wanted to do was load up something quick and find it out. Much room for improvement. However, pretty good
